Study & Organizational Skills Support

Individualized one-on-one support for children, teens, and young adults ages 6 to 21 who need help with studying, organization, motivation, and managing school demands.

Keeping up with schoolwork can be challenging when a young person has difficulty organizing materials, managing time, staying focused, getting started, or following through on assignments. Study & Organizational Skills Support provides practical guidance to help students develop effective habits, strategies, and routines that make school demands more manageable.

At Core Centre Psychological Services, we work with each student to identify their individual strengths, challenges, and learning preferences. Sessions focus on practical skills that students can begin using right away at school and at home.

What Can Study & Organizational Skills Support Help With?

Support can focus on a range of academic and organizational skills, including:

  • Building effective study habits
  • Managing time, homework, and school responsibilities
  • Getting organized and staying on track
  • Improving focus, concentration, and follow-through
  • Preparing for tests, exams, and assignments
  • Breaking large or overwhelming tasks into manageable steps
  • Reducing procrastination and improving task initiation
  • Managing school-related stress and frustration
  • Building motivation and persistence
  • Developing confidence and independence
  • Finding study and learning strategies that work for the individual
  • Creating routines and systems that support academic success

How It Works

Study & Organizational Skills Support typically includes 6 to 8 individual sessions, with each session lasting approximately 60 minutes.

Sessions are available in person at our Mississauga clinic or online, depending on the young person's needs and circumstances.

Each session is tailored to the individual's age, developmental level, strengths, challenges, and goals. Together, we identify practical strategies and tools that can be applied to current school demands, assignments, studying, and everyday routines.

Practical Strategies for School and Home

The focus is on developing skills that are useful in real-life situations. Students can learn how to plan ahead, prioritize responsibilities, break assignments into manageable steps, organize their work, prepare for tests, and develop routines that make it easier to get started and stay on track.

Rather than relying on a single approach, strategies are adapted to the individual so they can discover what works best for their learning style, needs, and circumstances.

Parent Involvement

Parents can participate in part or all of a session, depending on the young person's age, needs, and circumstances.

When appropriate, parents receive guidance, feedback, and practical strategies they can use at home to reinforce organizational and study skills and support continued progress.

Building Confidence and Independence

Developing effective study and organizational skills is about more than completing homework. It can help young people become more confident in managing responsibilities, approaching challenging tasks, and taking greater ownership of their learning.

Through individualized support, children, teens, and young adults can develop practical strategies for managing school demands while gradually building greater independence and confidence.
