Giftedness Resources

Practical information for families seeking to better understand giftedness, support advanced learners and make thoughtful educational decisions. Gifted children can have complex and individual profiles. Understanding the whole child matters.

Understanding Giftedness Beyond a Label

Giftedness is often discussed in terms of high ability, but a child’s development cannot be understood through a label or score alone. Children may show advanced reasoning, intense interests, creativity or rapid learning while still needing support in other areas of development.

Every Profile Is Different

Strengths may develop unevenly. A child can be highly capable in one area and more typical—or challenged—in another. Looking at patterns of strengths and needs can help families make better-informed decisions.

Information Should Lead to Practical Support

The goal is not simply to identify giftedness. Useful information should help families and educators consider appropriate challenge, wellbeing, relationships and opportunities for growth.

Giftedness Resources FAQs

Common questions families ask while learning more about giftedness and educational support.

Does giftedness look the same in every child?
No. Gifted children can have very different strengths, interests, learning patterns and support needs. A label alone does not describe the whole child.
Does a gifted child always perform highly at school?
Not necessarily. School performance can be influenced by many factors, including engagement, level of challenge, learning profile, organization, wellbeing and the educational environment.
When might a Gifted Assessment be useful?
Families may consider Gifted Assessment when they want structured information about a child’s cognitive profile or when assessment information may help with educational planning. Requirements for particular programs should be confirmed directly with the school or organization.
Is gifted support only about academics?
No. Appropriate intellectual challenge can be important, but emotional development, relationships, confidence, independence and wellbeing can also matter.
