Emotion Regulation Support
Individualized support for children, teens, and young adults ages 6 to 21 to better understand and manage emotions, build confidence, and develop practical life skills.
Children and young people can sometimes find it difficult to manage strong emotions, cope with stress or frustration, communicate their needs, or navigate challenging social situations. Emotion Regulation Support provides individualized guidance to help young people better understand their emotions, develop effective coping strategies, and respond to everyday challenges with greater confidence.
At Core Centre Psychological Services, we work with each young person according to their individual strengths, needs, circumstances, and goals. The focus is on developing practical skills that can be used at home, at school, with friends, and in everyday life.
What Can Emotion Regulation Support Help With?
Support can focus on a range of emotional, social, and practical skills, including:
- Building confidence and self-esteem
- Managing stress, frustration, and strong emotions
- Developing emotional awareness and regulation skills
- Navigating friendships and social situations
- Communicating feelings, needs, and concerns
- Speaking up and asking for help
- Handling conflict, feedback, and criticism
- Developing problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Understanding personal strengths and challenges
- Building independence and responsibility
- Developing coping strategies for everyday challenges
How It Works
Emotion Regulation Support typically includes 6 to 8 individual sessions, with each session lasting approximately 60 minutes.
Sessions are available in person at our Mississauga clinic or online, depending on the young person's needs and circumstances.
Each session is tailored to the individual's age, developmental level, strengths, concerns, and goals. Sessions may include discussion, practical exercises, skill development, and strategies that can be applied to real-life situations.
Parent Involvement
Parents can participate in part or all of a session, depending on the young person's age, needs, and circumstances.
When appropriate, parents receive guidance, feedback, and practical strategies they can use at home to reinforce the skills being developed during sessions. This collaborative approach can help create greater consistency and support positive changes beyond the counselling session.
Building Skills for Everyday Life
The goal of Emotion Regulation Support is to help young people develop a stronger understanding of themselves and greater confidence in handling everyday situations.
Through individualized support, children, teens, and young adults can learn to recognize and manage emotions, communicate more effectively, navigate challenges, solve problems, and gradually develop greater independence.
